Toilets that restore the simple dignity of living
Human waste can be put to good sustainable use, says Devanathan
It’s 0900 pm. A thin sliver of the moon glows weakly on the mountainscape. Stepping out of the house with his flashlight, Setho weaves down the slippery path toward the toilet. He is not used to doing the business as late. A cheerful kid at nine years, he finds it hard to overcome the fear of the night, the darkness. He squats on the hill side, in the comfort of the dim light that shines on the path, on the edge of the cliff.
