At Home at Hand
This edition brings you a few tips more, from naanimaa. Our grandmas sure know how to be eco-sensitive. Give these a try at home.
Ice Does it, Slowly
If you don’t have the time to water your hanging plants, just pop in a couple of ice cubes into the pot. As the cubes melt, the plant will be watered slowly.
Obstinate Stains
Add water to a little bleaching powder and mix well and strain the solution. Erase the stain by rubbing it with a little cotton dipped in this solution.
Grease Buster
To remove grease stains from silks, place filter paper above and below the stain and iron it. The stain will vanish.
Rinse With Coffee?
To prevent your dark saris from fading after a wash, given them a final rinse in water, to which a little coffee decoction has been added.
Aspirin Acts
Wash stained clothes in water containing two or three tablets of aspirin.
Tough Work
To retain the fluffiness of blankets, soak them overnight in water to which two or three handfuls of salt have been added. Squeeze them out and wash gently in warm soapy water and rinse them in warm water with two tbsp. of glycerine.
Talcum takes it
Remove grime from shirt collars and cuffs by rubbing a thick coat of talcum powder over them the night before. Then wash as usual the next morning.
Sun Stains
To remove yellow stains of food from table-mats, supply detergent mixed with a little water and keep in the sun for some time and wash.
The Dull Glint
Once a fortnight, after the usual dusting of wooden furniture and articles, scrub them with a cloth sprinkled with kerosene. The furniture will shine as if new.
Paraffin Shine
A bucket of hot water with a cupful of paraffin will give a protective shine.
