At Home at Hand
This edition brings you a few tips more, from naanimaa. Our grandmas sure know how to be eco-sensitive. Give these a try at home.
Eno Adds Pace
During winter, add a sachet of Eno to the batter and it will ferment quickly. The idlis will turn out softer.
Non-Stick made Easy
To convert an ordinary tawa into a non-stick one, rub a little salt and mustard powder with a slice of onion or potato in a little hot oil.
Not so Stubborn, Now
To remove stubborn adhesive labels on new dishes, apply a little cooking oil or furniture polish and keep aside for five minutes. The labels will peel off easily.
Toilet Tank Saver
Fill a one litre plastic container with water and tuck it into the toilet tank under the flush stick. When you flush, you use less water.
The Drip that Costs
Put any container under the dripping tap. You save 6-20 gallons of water this way. Fix the tap as soon as possible. Or turn off the shut-off valve.
Roses all the Way
To make old leather bags and belts look new, rub with cotton soaked in a solution of half tsp. rose water, one tsp. glycerine and half tsp. coconut oil.
Egg them On!
To preserve eggs for a longer period, wash them and put them slowly in a container of lime water or mustard oil.
The Bill will now Sell
A currency note can be mended by painting it with egg white. Let the note dry before use.
Marmy Mouthwash
After boiling eggs, cool the leftover water and use it to wash your mouth. The dissolved calcium carbonate from the shells is good for your teeth.
